We arrived at our host location at 11:30 pm, Saturday, october 4th. The travel day was not bad. We had a 2 hour flight to Houston Texas followed by a 3 hour layover, and a 5 hour flight to Medellin airport. The drive from the airport was in a big coach bus, and 45 minutes later we had arrived. We have 2 whole floors to ourselves, equipped with a living room and kitchen on each. Every bedroom has a bathroom. We are being treated very well here. For breakfast the fallowing day we had pastry’s from the bakery downstairs, and I will not get used to how good they are. We went to church in what is called “The Cave”. It is sanctuary room on the bottom level, and church was amazing. We got introduced to everyone who was attending that service. On Monday Gracia, who is our host, gave us a tour of the whole facility and told us about what they do here. We also went to the ATM at a local mall to get cash. On Tuesday we started ministry.

Starting Tuesday, the two primary ways of ministry here so far have been recycling and veggies. There have been a few other ways, on Wednesdays we go to The Broncs. It is a very homeless and drug prominent part of town. We went there to evangelize and hand out food. When I went there, seeing all the people on the streets hit me like a brick. I didn’t feel unsafe, I just felt sad. The guys on the squad have a few more opportunities. Every night from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm two guys get the chance to go into the lobby and help with men’s homeless shelter. Every night they open the lobby for the homeless to sleep in, so we get to help with patting down and searching bags. Every morning at 4:30 am, one of us gets to go with Lewis around the city to get bread. At 6:30 am three guys get to go help gather veggies around the city. Every Saturday we are able to do either youth or kids ministry. There are a lot of ways we are able to help, and there are probably more that we haven’t done just yet.

We get two days off, Thursdays are our adventure days, and Mondays are our sabbath days. Sunday is a cleaning day for our rooms but a very chill day. Adventure day is a a day given to us for the purpose of exploring and doing something fun. This past Thursday, I explored the city, got coffee and lunch with a few people from the squad. Some people took the metro, some people climbed to the top of a mountain and looked out upon the city. Some people got tattoos. Today just so happens to be my sabbath day. I went out for coffee with some folks from the squad and went to the store. I love doing ministry here, and we are also given a lot of time to hangout with each other. We are done with ministry by 4 pm everyday, except for things that happen later like the broncs.

As of today, Monday October 13th, I’m 50% fundraised. Praise God! It has not been easy for me so thank you. We are halfway there. Thank you for prayers for support and fundraising continue.
