We have already been here in Medellin for 3 weeks. Time is flying here and I’m not sure how I feel about that. We are going to be leaving Colombia before I know it. Ministry has continued to be the same these past few weeks. Recycling, homeless ministry, English classes, veggies. Me and some of the guys actually did an English class today with a very sweet couple. It was mostly just a conversation for an hour but it went very well. A few of the girls teams have gone to a senior living home to hang out with the elderly, and I would like to do that if given the opportunity. I’ll give a few highlights from the past 2 weeks.
Homeless Ministry. On Saturday the 18th, it was me and Blakes turn to do homeless ministry. Every night at 7 pm here, the doors are opened for homeless men to sleep in the lobby. They get shelter and a quick sermon every night and it great to see some of the men truly wanting to hear more about God. What me and Blake had to do was help pat down and search bags. I helped pat the men down while Blake helped search bags. It was a great change of pace. On this particular day, our whole guys team was going to be preforming a skit for the men. After about 30 minutes of patting down, the other guys on our team made their way in and we preformed a skit about Gods everlasting love for us. I was Jesus (probably because of the hair) and Toby playing a kid who got lost into worldly desires before finding that Jesus was waiting for him the whole time. We actually got a standing ovation at the end which was surprising.
Adventure days. We have had more great adventure days recently. I have been to lots of malls, downtown streets, shops, stores, and exploring. I have gotten to experience rush hour metro and it is actually crazy. We were shoving people to barely make it onto the train and in the train, oh man. Imagine a room big enough for 5 people to comfortably stand in. Now imagine 30 people being in that room. That is what it was like. Another day, actually 2 days ago, I went to an amusement park with some friends. It was only a 30 minute walk from our place. It was very fun and there were lots of rides, however no roller coasters. It wasn’t very busy but there seemed to be a class trip there and the kids loved us white people. Eventually it started to rain and the only ride that was open still was the water ride. The kids loved to see us get in line with them, unfortunately lightning ended the day.
On the 22nd, we had to say goodbye to a fellow squad mate. He went home for personal reasons. It wasn’t easy for any of us to see him go, but it was a great reminder to remember God is with us and his plan is greater.
I’m currently 51% fundraised, so please consider supporting me and praying for me as this journey to live out the great commission continues. Thank you all!
